FESTIVAL

D&AD Festival is a creative spectacular celebrating the world's best design and advertising, it took place on 24-26 April 2018 at The Old Truman Brewery, London.

As well as displays of stunning, award winning conventional design work, the huge focus on technology innovations was hard to miss at this year’s event. With several immersive content studio’s exhibiting.

Happy Finish 'The Slide'

‘The Slide’, is the world’s tallest virtual reality slide experience. Happy Finish CG Artist Chris Andrews created a 3D replica of The Shard’s 72nd story viewing deck. This allows the user to experience familiarity in the VR environment before being tipped out of the skyscraper to kick off their ride.

Hold the World

Factory 42 were showing demos of their ‘Hold the World’ interactive, virtual reality experience, featuring the iconic David Attenborough.

Sky’s new virtual reality experience, launching this spring, instantly transports the viewer to London’s Natural History Museum, where they can get their hands on rare specimens from its world-famous collection as they go behind the scenes to explore areas usually closed to the public.

Microsoft Surface Pro

The creative industry is synonymous with Apple, yet this year Microsoft partnered with the D&AD Festival, reaching out to the creative community and showcasing their impressive product range.

Impossible Foods

Another key highlight, was a thought provoking talk by Sasha Markova of Impossible Foods. Discussing the devastating environmental impact the beef industry has on the planet, which led Patrick O. Brown, M.D., Ph.D. to embark on a mission to make the global food system more sustainable.

Impossible foods believe they have created 'Meat 2.0' from plants.

Compared to a burger made from cows, making an 'Impossible Burger' uses about 1/20th the land, 1/4th the water, and produces 1/8th the greenhouse gas emissions. Feedback implies the taste and texture is almost identical to that of a traditional burger.
